The Friends of St Mary the Virgin Church Maulden

Registered Charity No 296924

The Friends of St Mary's Maulden is a charitable trust (Registered No. 296294), established in 1985 to enable the whole population of Maulden and other friends outside the village to contribute towards the maintenance of the St Mary the Virgin Church building and so help preserve our heritage for future generations.

Seeing the Church on the hill in the centre of the village gives us continuity and roots to the past. This building is there to serve anyone who enters it, even if not a regular worshipper. A quiet moment spent in and around this space is a life enhancing experience.

The Trustees of the Trust comprise of a representative group of the village community working within Charity Commission guidelines. The Trustees raise funds through donations, special events and a Share Club, to help the Parochial Church Council (‘PCC’) with repairs and maintenance of the Church building.

The Friends are not associated with the day-to-day running costs of the Church. These are met by the regular giving of the worshipping church community.

During the past 35 years, the Friends have contributed over £83,000 to assist the PCC with structural and maintenance projects and, in addition, have built up a substantial capital reserve fund to generate future income and as an emergency fund for major expenditure.

The Trustees meet on several occasions during the year to carry out their duties under the Trust Deed. Accounts with a balance sheet are prepared annually and an annual meeting held to update Friends about achievements, needs and activities.
